MARE Soc. Coop. a r.l., the lead partner for this project, is a cooperative created in 1995 from a biologists’ group initiative with the aim of supporting sustainable development and meeting the needs in the fishing and aquaculture sector along the Adriatic coast. Through the years, MARE staff skills and competences have developed to cover broader necessities in technological and scientific fields, allowing it to address all the steps of the aquatic products value chain as well as the environmental themes associated with it.
MARE is today a Research Institute for Fisheries and Aquaculture and a Technical Assistance Centre of National relevance officially recognized, that aims to assess and address assistance, research and innovation necessities in fisheries and aquaculture sector, relating professionally with workers of the sectors and with public institutions and research centers at local, national and international level.
In recent years MARE has participated in various EU projects both as project partner and as subcontractor.

Bruno Guillaumie is the Deputy director general of the National committee on shellfish farming (CNC), responsible for European affairs since 2003. He is also in charge of the Secretariat general of the European Mollusc Producers’ Association (EMPA). CNC gathers about 150,000 companies of the French shellfish interbranch (producers, depurators, dispatchers, shippers, wholesalers, and the various sales points: fishmongers, supermarkets and restaurants). He has been involved in previous EU projects (SEAFOOD+, CONSENSUS, BIVALIVE, EUROSHELL, SEAFOODTomorrow). Within the framework of these missions, he was implied at the time of various research programs in partnership with IFREMER and framed many trainees (thesis, engineer…) in fields such as: microbiological and marine biotoxins risks, quality of water and shellfish products, techniques of breeding, summer mortalities and socioeconomic data collection and dissemination… He also has extensive experience in the field of socio-economic studies in the sector of fisheries and aquaculture for which he produced numerous studies, provided French national technical assistance of the Community Initiative PESCA and animated a network of partners associated with the local development of areas dependent of the sea, particularly in employment and training, in respect of which he has coordinated several network projects co-financed by the European social fund.. He will bring to OPTIMA: necessary analysis to be carried out with the professionals, integration from their practical point of view, elaboration of methodology and tools, and dissemination of the results and tools.

Consello Regulador do Mexillón de Galicia is the entity in charge of managing the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Mexillón de Galicia. Its functions include dissemination activities, quality control of the mussel, product certification (which includes issuance of traceability documents) and vigilance against fraud, among others.
They are part of the CouncilConsello Regulador do Mexillón de Galicia 56 processing/transforming companies and more than 2.000 mussel producers.
The ultimate purpose of the Consello Regulador do Mexillón de Galicia is to promote the quality of mussels, both in farming activities and in the processing, transformation and distribution, to offer the consumer a product that matches their expectations and requirements.
In addition, the Regulatory Council has the function to facilitate or promote initiatives to improve the social group linked to “Mexillón de Galicia” -families, companies, workers and consumers-. To do that, it makes socio-economic and commercial studies, proposals and guidelines formulated intervention in the sector, and changes or reforms of the legal rules governing the matter. At the same time, it maintains a direct line of collaboration with the Public Administration in the defense and protection of the rights and interests of consumers and the PDO.
